This week, the Bush administration announced its new efficiency standards for home furnaces and boilers, which have been six years in the making. However, the new standards barely exceed current standards and they won't take effect for another eight years. Under the new regulations, by 2015 all non-weatherized, gas-fired furnaces must achieve 80 percent efficiency, just a 2 percent increase from current requirements of 78 percent efficiency. To further reduce the expected effects of the new standards, industry data reports that 99 percent of furnaces made today already meet 80 percent efficiency.  Read more on this story...
