Cutting-Edge Couture 

Deborah Lindquist has made some of Hollywood’s hottest stars green with envy. Her eco-friendly designs are made with materials ranging from bamboo to hemp and are worn by the likes of Christina Applegate, Sarah Jessica Parker and Cameron Diaz. Lindquist combines a vintage look with bold and neutral colors for a modern edge.

Give Me Your Huddled Masses Yearning  for Wind Power 

This year, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island became two of the first American landmarks to be powered solely by alternative energy. Wind turbines in West Virginia and Pennsylvania feed power into the national electrical grid to light up Ms. Liberty’s torch and supply air conditioning to both museums. Now that’s a cool idea.

Scout’s Honor

“Always be prepared to respect the Earth” could be the motto of SpiralScouts International, a co-ed eco-program for girls and boys. Kids learn woodland lore, camping and outdoor skills, and hear stories from Earth-centered mythology. They can be FireFlies (preschoolers to age 8), SpiralScouts (ages 8 to 13) or PathFinders (13 and older). SpiralScout Circles are raising environmental consciousness in 20 U.S. states and several Canadian provinces.

Viewers Like You Learn to Build Green 

In September, PBS premieres a TV home-improvement show with an environmental twist. “Building Green” delves into the challenges and rewards of creating beautiful, energy-efficient homes. The first season follows the host, actor Kevin Contreras, and his wife as they build a straw bale home. Check your local PBS listings or see BuildingGreenTV.com.

An Apple a Day

The Jimi, a new case for the iPod nano, is made from 100 percent recycled and recyclable materials—and a portion of profits go to the 1 Percent for the Planet initiative. The Jimi comes in a fruit basket of colors including, yes, green.
