After an exceptional turnout for the Earth Day 2002 GreenBuilt Tour in Austin, Texas, Kathryn Hauser and Michael Myers of Austin’s Sustainable Living Alliance wanted to help other communities take advantage of their experience in coordinating home tours. With financial help from the U.S. Department of Energy, the team has produced an instructional manual and CD to help others start their own sustainable home tours. The manual captures eight years of trial and error. “Readers get the best of our experiments,” says Myers, “without having to learn the hard way.” The interactive CD also provides graphic templates for a media campaign and tour guidebook. Users merely plug in their own data.
