Try This: Terra Cotta Pot Garden Planter

Thinking of investing $100 or more for some fancy, imported garden planter? Think again. Turn those common terra-cotta pots you have tucked away in the garden shed on their head. Then mix them up a bit to create sculptural, whimsical planters without spending a nickel. Try the ideas here, or get creative.

• It’s just like playing with blocks. Experiment with different combinations using pots of various shapes and sizes.

• We used black beach pebbles as part of the mix; sand would work as well.

• The configurations shown are stable but are meant to be moved around and changed as the mood strikes.

• If you want yours to be more permanent, try a weatherproof caulk or a bit of mortar used for ceramic tile to glue the pots together.
